As a struggling student and artist, founder Chad Zindroski, envisioned combining aesthetic sensibility and design with great function in a high quality pipe that even he could afford. The selection during that time consisted of heady pipes or large tubes, all of which came with large price tags. Dissatisfied with the available options, Chad pondered while gazing at borosilicate tubes in his back shed, and inspiration struck. By using only clear tubing, streamlined scientific design, and adding a perforated downstem for increased diffusion, pipe design and function were revolutionized. That day in 2003 was when the first scientific hammer was invented and Purr began.
Pragmatism and wholistic vision continue to guide Purr, enabling us to carry out our mission to provide customers with high quality, hand crafted, American made products that are moderately priced. We strive to constantly outperform our own expectations, scrutinize every detail, and are unwilling to compromise in order to deliver products with long term value to our customers.
From 2003 – 2011, Purr strictly focused on the customers in our home state of California and it’s surrounding states. It wasn’t until 2012 when we participated in our first national trade show. To this day we continue to innovate and expand our product offerings to stay relevant in the industry. After the success of the first scientific hammer, we have originated additional scientific designs such as the upright sherlock, double chamber, and the “Pocket”, or micro, piece. All of these styles have become industry standards and remain timeless in today’s market.
Only through constant artistic and technological innovation, we continue to evolve our design and business practices to honor our mission. Purr is a company and brand for the people.
